Those little black hairs you’re noticing in your pores are likely known as sebaceous filaments. Sebaceous filaments are naturally occurring in the skin and are often mistaken for blackheads. They are composed of a combination of sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. It is normal to have them, and they serve a purpose in helping to transport oil to the skin’s surface. They are different from blackheads, which are clogged pores with oxidized oil and dead skin cells. Maintaining a good skincare routine with gentle exfoliation and cleansing can help manage the appearance of sebaceous filaments.
