Blackheads are brought to the surface due to a combination of factors. They form when hair follicles become clogged with excess oil (sebum) and dead skin cells. This creates a plug in the follicle which, when exposed to air, oxidizes and turns black, hence the name blackhead. Proper skincare routine, exfoliation, and using products with salicylic acid or retinoids can help prevent and treat blackheads.
